The Japanese Chin is a fascinating little toy dog, sadly not as popular as it was in the early part of the 20th century. I can’t understand why as it is not a yappy breed, it keeps itself clean and it is not a fussy feeder . The coat is easy care and does not need to be trimmed. Little Chin person is quite happy to share with you whatever you are doing. Afternoon nap on the sofa, Chinny is there. Walk by the river, again Chinny is your ever present companion. They come in two main colours. Black and white seems to be the more favoured colour but red and white is becoming more popular. Red includes all shades from dark red with black hairs interlaced in the red, known as sable right down to the palest lemon and white. The tricolour does crop up sometimes but sadly, is frowned upon in the show ring in most of the Western world. The origin of the breed is rather a mystery but my detective work gives me a partial answer. It started in China many moons ago and Chins were sent along the silk road to the Japanese nobles as goodwill gifts. The older type with short legs and broad skulls are so similar to today's Pekingese that they just had to have sprung from the same breed origin.
I have bred this breed for quite a few years and with a fair bit of success. I delight in judging but no longer show or breed. I have included a few pictures of my own dogs, with a special page for my champions, and if you are interested in learning more please mail me. I have also included links to some other breeders plus some interesting places to visit..........Enjoy....
